My paintings are intricate play of colors, lights, and shadows. I do not choose objects to paint as much as I choose to capture a snapshot in time and memory. While objects (or things) anchor and focus an art work, I am fascinated with the feelings of dawn or dusk, the burning of the fog, the disappearance of time as we age, and the amorphous way our memory is organized. My paintings are simple and ask the viewer to stop, gaze, and lose themselves in the mist of time, perhaps, entering the unexplored territories of the subconscious. They do not ask the audience to intellectually understand them as much as they demand an emotional reaction. I simply rely on our innate desire for aesthetics, seduction, and poetics. 

 

My choices of color are subdued but with bits and pieces of bright colors scattered somewhat orderly. I use complex layering, additive and subtractive techniques, and some screen printing to achieve what I desire. My paintings may find home among the movements of abstract expressionism, minimalism, color-field, and surrealism; however, I endeavor for my works to defy classification while remaining contemporary. As I have progressed as a painter, I have come a long way from being a purely representational painter to more of a ‘cerebral painter’ where I have to close my eyes to see what I am painting.
