Hi all, I am really excited and saddened (I will miss my friends and professors) that my two years of hard work at San Jose State University (SJSU) is coming to an end. I will be doing my graduation requirement BFA exhibition on October 23-27. This exhibition is not simply a BFA requirement, it is a labor of love for me; it is the first time I was able to produce a large quantity of related works (series). In addition, it is the first time I ventured into the realms of pure abstract painting, and I must say the adventure was well worth it!

My BFA exhibition is entitled Waterfalls. Using the great Blue Nile Falls (Tis Isat) in Ethiopia as basis, my paintings reflect the awe-inspiring vision of this beautiful natural force. In this series of paintings, I have tried to capture the temperament (the personality) of the waterfall. I am not trying to capture the essence of a waterfall so as much its fierceness and its single-minded determination while rushing downward to the ground from where it took off. Here, I also wish to visually capture the thundering sound of the Tis Isat waterfall. Waterfalls will transport the viewer to within an inch of this natural wonder.
Finally, I would like to thank my advisor professor Gale Antokal for her great encouragement, insightful critics, and guidance. In addition the following professors influenced my direction greatly: Professors Irene Carvajal, Lordy Rodriguez, and Robert Chiarito. Above all, I have to say thank you to my partner and my husband for being patient and for firmly standing by me through thick-and-thin - I love you, you are my hero!! And my little ones for understanding why mommy has to go to school all day long.
I hope to see you all at the reception on October 27, 6pm-7pm at SJSU Art Building, 3rd Floor, Gallery 8. Free admission and great snacks.
